Esteve Oroval Planas has a degree and a doctorate in Economics. He has been Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Lleida and the University of Barcelona. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Barcelona.
He has taught Political Economy, Public Finance and Economics of Education from 1971 to 2014. He has specialized in Economics of Education: public and private expenditure, costs, financing, planning, evaluation, and the labor market. He has supervised six PhD students. He has authored or co-authored 25 articles, 24 books, speaker at 59 conferences and principal researcher of 45 research projects.
He has been Director of the Department of Economics and Business at the University of Lleida (1995- 1996) and of the Department of Political Economy and Public Finance at the University of Barcelona (1999-2002; 2006-2010). He has represented the General Council of Spanish Economists in the reform of university education of the Council of Universities (1986-1987). The Spanish head of the integrated Spanish-French action “supply, demand and financing of services to students in higher education (1986-1987)”. He has led over 16 External Evaluation Committees of Spanish universities. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation of Regions Européenes pour la Recherche en Education et Formation (FREREF). First President of the Association of Economics of Education (AEDE). Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics (2003) and at the University of California (Davis Campus) (2003). He has been awarded by the Joint Hispano-North American Committee for Cultural and Educational Cooperation, the University of Barcelona, the Institut d’Estudis Autonòmics, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and UC Berkeley’s Gaspar de Portolà Catalonian Studies Program.
